Curiosity, color, and the quiet art of paying attention

I’m Kathrin, the artist behind katmeetsmouse designs, where watercolor meets pattern and everyday life finds a splash of color.
My work often starts with curiosity: a line in a book, a curve of a leaf, or the light hitting a teacup just right. I paint these small moments in watercolor or sketch them digitally on my iPad, turning them into patterns that bring a little joy and color into the world.
By day, I work in a different field — this is my creative side-hustle, my way to keep color at the center of my life.
My background is in American Literature — a lifetime ago, really — but that love of stories and rhythm still shows up in my work today. It also explains my habit of listening to audiobooks and podcasts while I paint.
I’m happiest near the sea, sun-kissed and windswept, sketchbook in hand. When I’m home, you’ll find me in the garden — pruning, planting, or sometimes just watching the bees. It’s where I recharge, reflect, and occasionally spill tea on my sketchbook. In summer, the hammock is my second studio.
Coffee aroma? Love it. Coffee taste? Not so much. Tea is my steady companion. And blue — always blue — is the color that feels like home.
If you’d like to collaborate on a custom project or license one of my existing patterns, I’d love to hear from you.
