Coastal Contours Shell

Designed with Wallpaper in Mind

Some patterns arrive with a very clear purpose. This one absolutely wanted to become wallpaper.

Coastal Contours Shell began with the idea of stylized shell shapes and vintage fan motifs. Somewhere between Art Deco geometry, old textile prints, and the kind of faded seaside interiors that only get prettier with age. You know the sort of place: soft morning light, slightly creaky floorboards, linen curtains moving in the breeze, and wallpaper that quietly holds the whole room together without begging for attention every five minutes.

That balance was important to me while designing this pattern.

I wanted something decorative, but calm. Structured, but still soft around the edges. A pattern that could live on an entire wall without exhausting the room or the people inside it. Because honestly, wallpaper can go wrong very quickly. One overly busy repeat and suddenly your bedroom feels like it’s arguing with you.

Thankfully, Coastal Contours Shell has much better manners than that.

Right now, the collection includes three colorways, though I already know there will be more joining later on. I love seeing how differently a single repeat behaves once the palette changes. Same pattern, but a completely different atmosphere.

Coastal Blue

The blue colorway feels airy and light, with a subtle coastal mood that stays well away from obvious beach-house clichés. No anchors. No rope. No aggressively nautical decorating decisions.

Instead, it leans soft and timeless. The pale blue lines almost read as texture from a distance, which makes the wallpaper feel surprisingly easy to live with even across larger walls. I especially love it in bedrooms and guest rooms where you want a space to feel fresh, layered, and restful without slipping into minimalism so severe that nobody wants to touch anything.

Warm Coral

The coral version shifts the mood completely. Warmer, softer, and a little more romantic, though not in an overly delicate way. It reminds me of sun-faded plaster walls, old botanical illustrations, and late afternoon light in summer.

This is probably the colorway that feels most “collected” to me. The kind of wallpaper that pairs beautifully with natural wood furniture, rumpled bedding, vintage frames, woven textures, and slightly imperfect interiors that feel lived in rather than staged within an inch of their lives.

Which, frankly, is usually where rooms become interesting.

Soft Sage

The sage version moves into calmer, earthier territory. It still feels fresh, but a little more grounded and botanical. I can see this one working beautifully in modern cottage interiors, quiet reading corners, or spaces that need softness without relying on florals to do all the emotional heavy lifting.

Because the motif itself has structure, the overall look still stays clean and tailored. That tension between organic color and geometric rhythm is really what makes this collection work for me.

A Pattern That Changes with the Light

One of my favorite things about wallpaper is how differently it behaves throughout the day. Morning light softens it. Evening light pulls out completely different colors and textures. Sometimes a pattern almost disappears into the room from a distance, only to reveal all its little details once you get closer.

That’s very much the feeling I wanted with Coastal Contours Shell.

The motif has enough structure to feel intentional, but enough openness to let a room breathe. Depending on the colorway, it can lean coastal, vintage, romantic, or quietly modern without losing its character along the way. And honestly, that flexibility is probably why I already know I’ll keep adding more versions to this collection over time.

For now, the first colorways of Coastal Contours Shell are available in my Spoonflower shop on wallpaper, fabric, and home decor, ready to find their way into cozy bedrooms, quiet reading corners, and homes that could use a little extra softness and personality
